WHAT I USE

Shop and find the gear that I use ranging from valve oils, to mouthpieces, recording set ups, and even convenient water bottles that don’t stand out on stage!

Hetman Synthetic Piston Valve Oil #1

For my newer and tighter horns, I like to keep my Hetman #1 on hand.

Hetman Synthetic Piston Valve Oil #2

Acting as my day to day go to valve oil, Hetman #2 is recognized as one of the best valve oils on the market. I use this daily on my highest used horns.

Hetman Synthetic Piston Valve Oil #3

Hetman #3 is typically my go to for the most used horns in my bag. Being slightly thicker than #2, I use it for my vintage Selmer to keep it running in perfect condition.

Vincent Bach 7C Mouthpiece

An all around great mouthpiece, and my typical recommendation for students as it is versatile and accessible.

Vincent Bach 3C Mouthpiece

My go to standard mouthpiece. With a 3C in your pocket, you will always have something reliable to lean on.

Yamaha Bobby Shew Lead Trumpet Mouthpiece

Whenever you need to pop into the upper register for lead parts, the Bobby Shew will have your back.

Shure SM57 Dynamic Microphone

The “workhorse” of my recording equipment. The SM57 is perhaps the most reliable microphone for recording trumpet and all directional instruments.

Steinberg UR22C Audio Interface

When working on any recordings, an audio interface that you can count on consistently is no laughing matter. After years of experience, the Steinberg UR22C is my go to.

Shure XLR Cable

Perhaps the most overlooked piece of equipment, until you need it… The Shure XLR cable is reliable, and something good to always keep on hand!

Protec Trumpet Mute Bag

Gone are the days of my reusable grocery tote bag doubling as my mute bag. The Protec mute bag is compact and great for hauling all of your mutes to and from gigs or rehearsals.

Jo-Ral Trumpet Straight Mute

The straight mute is the most commonly called upon trumpet mute in the world of orchestras and bands. The Jo-Ral is known worldwide as consistent and one of the most recognized names amongst professional brass players.

Dennis Wick Trumpet Cup Mute

Whether you are a jazz or classical player, the cup mute is something that you need to keep on hand. The Dennis Wick is a fantastic choice, as the removable/adjustable cup allows the player to alternate to straight mute if in a pinch!

Arban’s Book

At the heart of all professional trumpet player’s methodology is the Arban’s Book. Every student of mine learns these methods as a part of their fundamental foundation.

Théo Charlier Etudes

As students learn and expand their musical library, the Charlier book of etudes is one of the first necessary purchases. This book contains some of the most performed etudes in the trumpet repertoire.

Marcel Bitsch Vingt Etudes

Similar to the Charlier, the Bitsch etudes are eventually where most trumpet players will progress in their studies. Being generally more technically focused, these are fantastic etudes for growing a player’s foundation.

First Book of Practical Studies For Cornet and Trumpet - Getchell

As a young trumpet player, there are a few books that I believe you need to have in your library, and the Getchell is one of my most recommended for any new player.

Rubank Elementary Method

In the same world as the Getchell, I believe that the Rubank is one of the best methodology books for any young trumpet player. Rubank is one of the most recognized names in music methodology, and for good reason!

Clarke Technical Studies

A true staple in every trumpet player’s library is the Clarke. From a beginner all the way to top tier professionals, the lessons learned in the Clarke book resonate with every player around the globe. This is truly one of the most important books in any players home.

Hydro Flask 20oz Wide Mouth Water Bottle

After countless on stage performances under hot lights, water begins to become a top concern! My go to is Hydro Flask, because its insulation keeps my water perfectly cold for mid performance refreshment! The black color is also discreet enough to not draw the audience’s attention away from what matters… YOU!

Hydro Flask Wide Mouth Flex Straw Cap

Helping you get rehydrated on stage, and remaining discreet, the flex straw cap is perfect. Compared to the regular lid, you can quickly sip your water without flashing your water bottle over the top of the entire orchestra.

Hetman Tuning Slide Grease

After you give your precious trumpets their well deserved baths (nudge nudge…) you have to make sure that you get all of those oils and greases reapplied so your trumpets are running smoothly once again!

BIC Mechanical Pencils (40 pack)

Perhaps the most used (or should be…) accessory for any professional musician! The reliability of a mechanical pencil far surpasses a standard pencil, and this pack will last you years in your case.

Yamaha Silver Polishing Cloth

Keeping your instrument clean is one of the most crucial steps to the longevity of your horn’s life! And after a cleaning, I always like to give my horns a good polish to look as good as possible!

Peak SMS-30 Collapsible Music Stand

Whether you’re practicing at home, outside in a park, or bringing your own stand to a concert, the Peak is my first choice. While traditional wire stands are widely used, they tend to not hold up well in the wind during outdoor performances. I use the Peak because of its stability and reliability!
